Cranky Pregnant Girl (aka Jessica Neuman Beck) gave birth to Cranky Baby in December of 2005. Mama and baby live with Not-So-Cranky Dada in Portland, Oregon, where it does not rain nearly as much as you’d think.

And now…a meme.

What did you do in 2005 that you’d never done before?
Umm…had a baby? Also was unemployed for most of the year. It’s not that I’ve never done that, but it’s been a really, really long time.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I think, honestly, that I was the most excited about quitting my job and starting a new career. (You thought I’d say “having a baby,” right? Thing is, I was so anxious about something going wrong that I wouldn’t let myself get really excited until he was born. So, yeah, I was the most excited about the baby, but only for the last two weeks of the year, whereas I was all giddy about the career thing for at least twice that long.)

What do you wish you’d done more of?

What do you wish you’d done less of?

What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A discernable waist? Also some freelance work. And perhaps a massage.

What did you want and get?

What did you want and not get?
Freelance work. And slippers from Gap.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Oy. My birthday kind of bit, actually - I had gnarly morning sickness. Also, we hadn’t told anyone about the pregnancy yet, so I couldn’t explain why I was so lame and home-bound and depressed. I turned 31.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

What was the best thing you bought?
The best thing I bought…god, I don’t even know. I think probably the video camera?

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My own - yay, pregnancy hormones!

…Happier or sadder?

…Thinner or fatter?

…Richer or poorer?
Both? Definitely poorer than when 2005 started and we were both gainfully employed.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Mutual Admiration Society.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Heh. I rocked the sweatpants all through 2005. I used to be cute, I swear.

Who were the best new people you met?

Did you fall in love in 2005?
Every day.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Bringing a pregnancy to a successful conclusion.

What was your biggest failure?
Keeping up with the housework? Oh, and that whole “career” thing.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
